Our History
Since 1984, the statewide nonprofit Palmetto Project has identified and implemented new ideas to improve health, social, and economic outcomes in the Palmetto State. Beginning in 1990, our Midlands office innovated a new model of holiday giving in partnership with WIS News 10 and the incredible Midlands community through Families Helping Families of the Midlands (FHFM). Together, FHFM builds grassroots community support between neighbors for holiday giving, back-to-school, and emergency disaster relief.
In 2025, Palmetto Project is bringing FHF to the Lowcountry (FHFL)!
We are starting this special new tradition in partnership with Midland Park Primary School in North Charleston through our back-to-school drive for 300 Pre-K and K5 students in need.
And this fall, we are partnering with the entire Charleston County School District to ensure students — from Pre-K to high school — and their families who have been displaced can have a happy holiday.

You can help us reach our goal of providing
300 children in Pre-K and K5 in need at Midland Park Primary School
with backpacks & the school supplies they need to succeed.
How it works
Our Process
Our first year of FHFL will provide back-to-school support and holiday assistance to local families in need with your support.
- The Palmetto Project team has partnered with Midland Park Primary School (MPPS) to provide 300 brand-new backpacks with school supplies to Pre-K and K5 students in need. For 2025, we are only supporting students in Pre-K and K5 at MPPS.
- Our holiday assistance program will provide the magic of the season to over 500 students (and their families) from the Charleston County School District (CCSD) who have been displaced and are in need. With your support and contributions, we will make the holiday season a generous season.
-
-
- All referrals to FHFL must be received via CCSD staff (i.e., teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, etc.) who have confirmed eligibilty of their students & families.
