HOW IT WORKS
Since 2025
Helping
Local families
celebrate the season
Our History
Since 1984, the statewide nonprofit Palmetto Project has identified and implemented new ideas to improve health, social, and economic outcomes in the Palmetto State. Beginning in 1990, our Midlands office innovated a new model of holiday giving in partnership with WIS News 10 and the incredible Midlands community through Families Helping Families of the Midlands (FHFM). Together, FHFM builds grassroots community support between neighbors for holiday giving, back-to-school, and emergency disaster relief.
In 2025, Palmetto Project brought FHF to the Lowcountry (FHFL)!
And for the 2025 holiday season, Palmetto Project partnered with the entire Charleston County School District to ensure students from Pre-K to high school & their families experiencing homelessness had a happy holiday.
In 2025, YOUR support continued this special tradition by making spirits merry & bright for 286 students and their families without a home for the holidays.
Thank you!

Our first holiday assistance program for Charleston County School District students experiencing homelessness was a success because of YOU!

How it works
Our Process
Our first year of FHFL provides back-to-school support and holiday assistance to local families in need with your support.
- The Palmetto Project team partnered with Midland Park Primary School (MPPS) to provide brand-new backpacks with school supplies to Pre-K and K5 students in need. In 2025, we only supported students in Pre-K and K5 at MPPS for back-to-school.
- Our holiday giving program provided the magic of the season to nearly 300 students & their families from the Charleston County School District (CCSD) without a home for the holidays. With your support and contributions, we made the holiday season a generous season.
-
- All referrals to FHFL must be received via CCSD staff (i.e., teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, etc.) who have confirmed eligibilty of their students & families.
